On July 19, 2024, the Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology (SSIAT) successfully held its Science and Technology Innovation Day at Shanghai University. This event was a concrete implementation of the spirit of the Fourth Party Congress of Shanghai University, adhering to the three major development strategies, and contributing new momentum to the university's development. The Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, Cheng Danhong, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Tan Puzhen, a member of the Municipal Party Committee Organization Department and Deputy Director of the Municipal Talents Work Bureau (Municipal Bureau of Foreign Experts), Liu Li, Deputy Director of the Municipal Education Commission, Huang Hong, Deputy Director of the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Tang Wenkan, Deputy Director of the Municipal Economic and Information Commission, Lu Zufang, Standing Committee Member of the Jiading District Committee and Executive Deputy District Head, Benoît Dubuis, President of the Swiss Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of the Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology at Shanghai University, and Duan Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, were among the leaders and guests in attendance. The opening ceremony was hosted by the Vice President of the university, Zhang Jianhua. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Cheng Danhong and Prof. Benoît Dubuis held a strategic signing ceremony. Prof. Zhang Lei, the executive dean of SSIAT, and Prof. Wang Jing from ETH Zurich, signed a framework cooperation agreement for the establishment of an international joint laboratory between SSIAT and the Environmental and Health Sensing Technology Laboratory of ETH Zurich. Later leaders from the government and the university jointly launched the opening ceremony of the 22nd Shanghai Integrated Circuit (Biochip) Urgently Needed Talent Training Program. Tan Puzhen affirmed the significant role of this event in promoting scientific and technological innovation in his speech. He pointed out that Shanghai has a high degree of internationalization, a large stage for endeavors, and an excellent development ecosystem. It is accelerating the construction of a high-level talent highland and is becoming a global hub for talent and innovation. Since its establishment, the Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology has been focusing on key areas such as life and health. Relying on Shanghai University's School of Microelectronics, it has co-built joint laboratories with the Biodonostia Research Institute in Spain and the University of Port Harcourt. It has actively promoted the research and development of bio-intelligent sensing chips and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. It has hosted international conferences on industry-academia-research collaboration organized by the Ministry of Education and participated in organizing the first Sino-Swiss Academy of Engineering Innovation Forum, promoting international exchanges and cooperation, and has achieved good results. It is believed that in the future, SSIAT will further gather high-end innovative elements and promote Shanghai University to carry out broader and deeper cooperation on a global scale. Leaders from the municipal government as well as different departments of Shanghai University, and representatives of teachers and students attended the opening ceremony. Prior to the opening ceremony, Duan Yong hosted the Strategic Consultation Meeting on the Construction of the Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology. Zhang Lei, Executive Dean of SSIAT, reported on the construction progress of the institute. Academician Benoît Dubuis introduced the work plans for the establishment of the Sino-Swiss International Concept Validation Center, and the attending experts conducted a detailed discussion on relevant issues. Following the opening ceremony, Jiang Ying, Deputy Minister of the Organizational Personnel Department and Director of the Talents Work Office of Shanghai University, hosted the keynote speech section. Prof. Benoît Dubuis from the Swiss Academy of Engineering and Prof. Wang Jing from ETH Zurich each delivered a keynote speech. During the afternoon session, several experts from universities, research institutions, and the industry, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiao Tong University, the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, and Hangzhou LinkZill Co., Ltd., gave multiple presentations on the theme of microelectronics empowering biomedicine, sharing the latest research findings and technological models. SSIAT Science and Technology Innovation Day reflects Shanghai University's commitment to addressing significant national needs, strengthening national strategic scientific and technological capabilities, accelerating the realization of self-reliance in science and technology, further coordinating multiple resources, forming policy support, and creating a talent highland. In the future, with the great concern and support of all sectors of society, the Sino-Swiss Institute of Advanced Technology will advance the construction of a talent highland, accelerate scientific and technological innovation, provide an efficient and in-depth exchange platform for the scientific and industrial communities, and contribute wisdom and strength to the high-quality development of the university. |
